Edit a Role
This page explains how to update an existing Role in Revvy to adjust permissions, licenses, or organizational access as business needs evolve.
Overview
Over time, team structures and project needs change. Editing a role allows administrators to update permissions without needing to recreate it from scratch. For example, you may grant a Release Manager additional Deploy rights or restrict a QA Reviewer to Read-only access.
Role edits affect all groups and users associated with that role, ensuring changes are applied consistently across the organization.
Steps to Edit a Role
Navigate to the Roles page at https://global.revvy.io/roles.
Select the role you want to modify (e.g., SystemAdministrator).
Click Edit in the top-right corner.
Update the following fields as needed:
Name and Description – Adjust for clarity or updated responsibilities.
License – Switch between Full access and Read-only.
Common Permissions:
Pipelines → Choose Pipeline executions or Manage & Execute pipelines.
Pull Requests → Switch between Read (View only) and Contribute (Create and Comment).
Org Permissions:
Add or remove organizations.
Modify per-org access by toggling Retrieve, Validate, Deploy.
Click Save to apply changes.
Example
Editing the SystemAdministrator role:
License: Full Access
Pipelines: Manage & Execute pipelines
Pull Requests: Contribute (Create and Comment)
Orgs: Grant Retrieve, Validate, Deploy permissions across all connected orgs
This ensures that System Administrators maintain broad access while still allowing fine-grained control per org.
Best Practices
Audit before changes – Review who is impacted by this role (via Groups).
Document updates – Keep a change log for compliance and governance.
Test with a subset – If introducing new permissions, validate with a pilot group before broad rollout.
Revoke unused rights – Regularly remove permissions no longer needed to enforce least privilege.
